Marketing for businesses in the O'Hare area

A community area dominated by an airport, where most of the people running local searches do not live within fifty miles and will be gone by Thursday. That single fact reshapes everything about local marketing here.

Platforms this work keeps in sync: Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Tripadvisor and Better Business Bureau.

In short

How is local marketing different around O'Hare?

Around O'Hare a large share of local searches come from travellers and business visitors rather than residents, so profile accuracy, current hours, photos and reviews matter more than any long-term content programme.

The logistics and freight businesses in the same area have the opposite problem: their buyers are procurement and operations teams who search for a capability, not a location.

VIS Mountain serves the O'Hare area from its Elmhurst office at 691 N Church Road, a short run south. There is no VIS Mountain address in the O'Hare area.

Named ground

O'Hare area ground worth naming.

An airport, its approaches, and the freight and hotel districts around it.

  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport, which dominates the community area
  • The Kennedy Expressway, I-90, and the I-190 airport approach
  • Higgins Road, Illinois Route 72, along the southern side
  • The CTA Blue Line into the airport and the Cumberland station outside it
  • Rosemont immediately east, a separate municipality with its own hotel cluster
  • The air cargo and freight forwarding districts around the airport
  • The residential pocket south of the runways inside the community area

Rosemont is a separate municipality and we name it as one. A business there is not in Chicago, and its listings should not say it is.

The ground

An airport, a freight corridor and a thin residential edge.

The O'Hare community area occupies the far north-western corner of Chicago and is dominated by Chicago O'Hare International Airport itself. The Kennedy Expressway, I-90, runs to it, with I-190 forming the airport approach. Higgins Road, Illinois Route 72, runs along the southern side. Rosemont, which is a separate municipality, sits immediately east and carries much of the hotel and entertainment development associated with the airport.

The CTA Blue Line runs into the airport, with the Cumberland station serving the area just outside it. Beyond the airport boundary the community area includes a residential pocket to the south of the runways and a substantial band of air cargo, freight forwarding and logistics operations.

From the Elmhurst office the run north is short and direct. This is one of the few places in the cluster where the searcher is more likely to be a visitor than a resident, and that is the fact worth planning around.

Who trades here

Hospitality, freight, aviation services and corporate travel.

Hospitality is the most visible economy: hotels, restaurants, bars, car hire, parking operations, transport and the services that support a constant flow of arriving and departing travellers. These businesses live on map visibility and review quality, because their customers have no local knowledge and are choosing from three results on a phone.

Freight and logistics is the larger economy by value. Air cargo handling, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, warehousing, trucking and the specialist services around them. These businesses sell to procurement and operations teams, often internationally, and their marketing problem is credibility and capability rather than local visibility.

Between the two sits a corporate and professional layer: aviation services, staffing, corporate travel management, conference and meeting services, and a range of B2B firms that took offices near the airport specifically for the access. Their buyers are rarely searching locally at all.

Process

A review process that survives a busy week.

Most review programmes die because they depend on someone remembering. Freight and logistics buyers in the same area search for capability and compliance, and never for a neighbourhood name. This is what we set up instead.

  1. Pick the moment, not the month

The ask goes out when the job is finished and the customer is still thinking about it, triggered by something that already happens in your system rather than by a person with a spare minute.

  2. Ask once, make it one tap

A single message with a direct link to the profile. Every extra step between the ask and the review loses a meaningful share of the people who intended to leave one.

  3. Reply to all of them

Including the good ones. BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 89% of consumers expect a response and half view generic, templated replies negatively, so the reply has to be written by someone who read the review.

  4. Handle the bad one properly

Respond calmly, correct the record, move the argument off the platform. Nothing published, nothing incentivised, nothing filtered before it is asked for.

That is deliberately boring. Review programmes that are interesting are usually the ones that get a profile suspended.

Evidence

What an AI Overview does to the click.

Ahrefs compared 300,000 keywords, half with AI Overviews and half without, using aggregated Search Console data from December 2023 against December 2025. This is the measured drop in click-through rate by position when an AI Overview is present.

-58.0%click-through rate at position one
-50.8%click-through rate at position two
-46.4%click-through rate at position three

SourceAhrefs, AI Overviews reduce clicks, 2026 update

That is a vendor study, and it measures correlation across a large sample rather than what will happen to any one site in the O'Hare area. The practical reading is that ranking first is worth less than it was, and being the source the summary quotes is worth more.

Search behaviour

Two audiences that could not be less alike.

For the traveller-facing businesses, everything depends on the profile. Current hours including holiday hours, current photos, accurate categories, honest wait times where applicable, and a steady flow of recent reviews. A traveller choosing a restaurant at nine at night will not read a website. They will read three map results and pick one.

For the freight and logistics businesses, none of that matters much. What matters is a site that states services, coverage, certifications, compliance and capacity clearly enough that a procurement team can shortlist from it, and increasingly clearly enough that an AI assistant can summarise it accurately. These are genuinely different scopes and we price them differently.

Hours accuracy matters more here than almost anywhere, because a traveller checking at nine at night has no fallback.

Levers

Four things move local visibility. Everything else is detail.

Around O'Hare most local searchers are visitors with no local knowledge, which puts almost all the weight on the profile rather than the website. These are the four we work on, in roughly this order of leverage.

Who covers the O'Hare area, and how.

the O'Hare area is a service area, not an office location. The work is run from the VIS Mountain Elmhurst office, which is the nearest of our seven, and there is no VIS Mountain address in the O'Hare area. Every page on this site that shows a street address shows an office we actually have.

  • The Elmhurst office runs the work, and its team is who you would deal with
  • Direct line for that office: (708) 669-9666
  • Support and service are available 24 hours virtually, which is what our published availability describes
  • In-person meetings run 8:00am to 6:00pm local time, by appointment
  • Most first conversations happen on a call or on video, and you are welcome to meet at the office instead
  • Nothing needs signing at a first meeting, and you keep the findings either way

Every office is by appointment only, including the headquarters. We do not take walk-ins. We also do not publish a promised booking turnaround, because the calendar shows real availability and a written promise would go stale the week after we made it.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does VIS Mountain have an office near O'Hare?

Our nearest office is in Elmhurst at 691 N Church Road, Suite 203, a short run south of the airport. We serve the O'Hare area from there, by appointment only, and we do not claim an address closer than we have.

What matters most for a hotel or restaurant near the airport?

Current hours, current photos, accurate categories and recent reviews. Travellers decide from the map in under a minute and rarely open a website at all.

Holiday and irregular hours matter disproportionately, because a wrong closing time sends someone to a competitor and often produces a bad review as well.

We are a freight forwarder. Is local search relevant?

Barely, and we will say so. Your buyers search for services, lanes, certifications and compliance, not for a place.

Your money is better spent on a site that lets a procurement team shortlist you, and on being accurately represented in the industry directories they actually use.

Should our listing say Chicago or Rosemont?

Whichever is true for your actual address. Rosemont is a separate municipality from Chicago, and a listing that claims the wrong one creates conflicting records across directories.

It is a small detail that quietly costs consistency, and it is worth getting right once rather than fighting it later.

Do reviews from travellers count differently?

They count the same, but they behave differently. Traveller reviews arrive in bursts, often mention the airport, and skew toward the extremes.

A steady flow from all customers smooths that out, and responding properly to the difficult ones matters more here than in a market where most reviewers are regulars.
