Home services / Remodeling
Remodeling marketing for a project people think about for months.
A homeowner planning a remodel has usually been thinking about it for a year, saving for six months and collecting photographs the whole time. By the time they contact anybody, the decision they are making is about the contractor, not the project.

How do remodeling contractors get better leads?
Remodeling has a long consideration period, so the enquiries that arrive today are the result of visibility and proof built months ago. A campaign switched on this week will produce enquiries from people who started thinking about it in spring.
The most valuable assets are photographs of completed local projects, honest budget information and a quote process that follows up properly. Most remodeling companies lose more work after issuing an estimate than they ever lose in the advertising.
Lead count is the wrong metric. A remodeling business should be measured on qualified appointments, quotes issued, close rate and average project value, because a smaller number of well matched enquiries is worth far more than a large number of budget mismatches.
Budget mismatch is the single biggest waste in remodeling.
A remodeling company spends money attracting an enquiry, books a consultation, sends a designer or an estimator to the house for an hour, prepares a quote, and then discovers the homeowner expected the project to cost a third of what it does. That sequence is expensive and it happens constantly.
It is entirely avoidable, and the reason it is not avoided is that contractors are afraid of putting numbers on a website. The fear is that a figure will scare people off. It will, and those are precisely the people whose enquiry was always going to end this way.

Publishing honest project ranges, with a clear explanation of what moves a project from one band to another, does three useful things. It disqualifies mismatches before they cost anybody time. It anchors expectations for the people who are a fit. And it signals a contractor confident enough to talk about money, which is rarer than it should be in this trade.
The ranges have to be real for your business and your market, and they have to be presented as ranges with the variables named. Materials, structural work, the age and condition of the property, and how much design is involved all move the figure. Saying so is more useful than a single number and more honest than silence.
Where a business genuinely cannot publish ranges, the fallback is to qualify in the enquiry form rather than at the kitchen table. A budget band question loses a few enquiries and saves a great many hours.
Most of your future customers are not ready and are already looking.
This is the structural fact that makes remodeling marketing different from every emergency trade.
At any moment, a remodeling company's market contains a large number of people who will remodel eventually, a smaller number actively planning, and a very small number ready to call. Advertising only reaches the last group, which is why it is expensive and why competition there is fierce.
The advantage available to a patient business is to be present for the middle group. That is what project photography, ideas content and local project stories actually do. They are not lead generation in the direct sense; they are the reason a homeowner who has been looking at your work for four months contacts you rather than the company whose advertisement they saw once.

This has an uncomfortable reporting consequence. The content that produces a June enquiry was published in February, and last click attribution will credit whatever the person touched most recently, usually a branded search or a direct visit. The work will look like it produced nothing.
The correction is a single question at the first appointment: how did you first come across us. Recorded consistently, it produces a far more accurate picture than any dashboard, and it usually reveals that photography and referral are doing more work than the advertising account suggests.
Five things to do with a lead that is not ready yet.
Most remodeling companies treat a not yet as a no, and then buy another lead to replace it.
Find out when, and believe them
A homeowner planning for next spring is not a bad lead, they are a lead with a date. Record it and stop treating it as a failed conversion.
Send something genuinely useful
Project galleries, a realistic explanation of how long a project takes, what happens to the household during the work. Not a monthly sales email.
Re-contact near the date
A short, human message a few weeks before the timeline they gave you. This is the highest converting message a remodeling business sends and most send nothing at all.

Keep old quotes warm
A quote from last year is not dead. Projects get deferred for reasons that resolve, and the homeowner who postponed in October is often ready in March.
Track the pipeline by stage
Enquiry, appointment held, quote issued, won, lost, deferred. Without those stages a remodeling business cannot tell whether its problem is demand, qualification or closing.
A business that manages deferred leads properly usually finds a meaningful share of its next year's work already sitting in its own records.
What actually persuades a remodeling client.
Contractors tend to invest in the left hand column and homeowners are reading the right.

| What contractors promote | What homeowners are assessing |
|---|---|
| Decades of experience | Whether you finish on time |
| Range of services | Whether you have done this exact project |
| Quality craftsmanship | Photographs of your actual work, nearby |
| Free estimates | What the project will really cost |
| Fully insured | What happens if something goes wrong |
| Family owned | Who will actually be in the house each day |
| Award winning | Reviews describing how you behaved under pressure |
Every item on the right is answerable with specifics. That is the whole content strategy for a remodeling company, and it costs almost nothing beyond the discipline of documenting jobs as they happen.
What homeowners require before letting anyone quote.
BrightLocal surveyed 1,002 US consumers in 2026 across local business categories. Remodeling involves strangers in the house for weeks, which raises the bar rather than lowering it.

Remodeling reviews are read in unusual depth, because the reader is looking for evidence about behaviour during a long, disruptive project rather than about a single transaction. The FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials took effect on 21 October 2024. It covers buying reviews, writing your own, and suppressing negative ones. Every review we help collect is first party, requested from a real customer, and never gated on the rating they intend to leave.
What applies to remodeling advertising.
- The FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials took effect on 21 October 2024. It covers buying reviews, writing your own, and suppressing negative ones. Every review we help collect is first party, requested from a real customer, and never gated on the rating they intend to leave.
- Any material connection between you and someone endorsing you has to be disclosed clearly and close to the endorsement. Paying, gifting, discounting or employing someone all count as material connections.
- Local Services Ads are not a normal ad buy. Google requires businesses to complete background checks and to hold appropriate licences and insurance before ads can run, verifies licences against state databases, and requires a certificate of insurance where the category calls for one. Background checks reach service professionals as well as owners in urgent categories such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, locksmith and garage doors.
- Email and phone follow up carry their own rules. CAN-SPAM requires accurate headers, a physical postal address and a working opt out honoured promptly, and calls and texts to consumers sit under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Follow up sequences get built to those rules rather than retrofitted to them.
- Work disturbing paint in homes built before 1978 is subject to the EPA's lead renovation, repair and painting programme, which requires certified firms and specific practices. A firm that holds that certification should say so plainly, because it is checkable and most competitors do not mention it.
Contractor licensing is state and often municipality specific, and several states run free public lookups. Making your licence easy to verify is a conversion asset in a category built on trust.
Close rate and average project value, not lead count.
Lead count is the metric most remodeling companies are sold on and the one least connected to a good year. Twenty enquiries that were never a budget fit are worse than five that were, because each one consumed an appointment and a quote.
The panel that describes the business is qualified appointments held, quotes issued, close rate, average project value and revenue booked by source. Together those show whether a campaign is producing work or activity.
Read the full breakdown: Close rate and average project value, not lead count.Hide the full breakdown: Close rate and average project value, not lead count.
Watch close rate as the leading indicator of lead quality. Falling close rate while lead volume rises almost always means the targeting has drifted toward price shoppers or the wrong project types.
Average project value deserves its own attention, because it is the variable most within a contractor's control and the one most often ignored. A business that raises average project value by presenting scope better is more profitable than one that buys more leads, and the change costs nothing in media.
Referral and repeat work belong in the same report. A remodeling company with a good reputation receives a meaningful share of its work from past clients and their neighbours, and if that is not recorded the advertising will appear to be doing more than it is. The correction is the same single question at the first appointment, asked consistently.
Finally, track the reason for every loss. Contractors overwhelmingly assume they lost on price, adjust accordingly, and discover nothing changed. A short question after a loss produces better intelligence than any market research, and the answer is frequently about timing, scope confidence or how quickly the quote arrived. Results vary by market, budget, competition and other factors. Nothing here is a guarantee of a ranking, a lead volume or a revenue outcome.
What a remodeling lead is worth, and how to tell the work is thin.
LocalIQ's 2026 benchmarks put home and home improvement at an $8.33 average cost per click and a $90.92 average cost per lead. Those are vendor aggregates across every trade in the sector and they vary enormously inside it, so treat them as a way of spotting a quote that is out of range rather than as a target.
For remodeling the sector average is close to meaningless, because an enquiry that is a budget mismatch costs a consultation, a measurement visit and a proposal before it is discovered. Cost per signed project, alongside the proportion of consultations that were never a fit, is the honest pair of numbers.

Define qualified in writing: minimum project value, the areas you work in, property types, and the scopes you decline. Publishing a budget range, or asking for one in the enquiry form, moves that qualification before the expensive part rather than after it.
The compliance point specific to this trade is lead safe certification. Work disturbing paint in homes built before 1978 requires certified firms and specific practices, which reaches a large share of housing stock, and almost no remodeling website mentions holding it.
How you tell it is being done badly: reporting that leads with enquiry count, no budget qualification anywhere in the funnel, stock imagery instead of your own completed projects, and no record of why quotes were lost.

Your website works alongside the field service software you already run.
We do not replace your field service software, we do not migrate it, and we do not ask you to change it. The site links to it from the places a homeowner is ready to act, and embeds the vendor's own widget where the vendor publishes one. Being plain about the mechanism: that is all it is. Nothing is synced, nothing we build reads or writes your records, and the names below are systems our clients run, not partners of ours. Nobody books a remodel off a calendar. The handoff here is a consultation request carrying enough detail that the first visit is not spent collecting it.
Scheduling, dispatch and invoicing
Your jobs, your techs and your invoicing stay in the system your office already runs on. Where it publishes a booking page or an online payment link, the site points at it, and where it does not the phone stays the primary route rather than being demoted for the sake of a widget.

Trade specific systems
Roofing, landscaping and pest control tend to run something built for the trade rather than a general platform, and those often publish nothing a website can embed at all. That is normal and it is not a problem: the handoff is a clearly labelled link and a phone number that rings.

Estimating, measurement and job photos
These sit between the enquiry and the quote, which is exactly where most home services enquiries go cold. We do not touch the tools. What the site can do is set the expectation properly, so a homeowner knows whether they are booking a visit or asking for a measurement.

What we actually change
Not the system: the path to it. Where the button sits on the page, whether it says what happens when you press it, how many taps it takes from a phone, whether it appears again at the point a homeowner has finished reading and decided, and whether somebody who is not ready yet has a second way to reach you. That path is ours, it is measurable, and in most business audits it is the part doing the damage.
Where the handoff is only a link
Some vendors publish an embeddable widget and some publish nothing at all. Where there is nothing to embed and no deep link worth pointing at, the site sends the visitor to your booking page or your login and stops there. That is a perfectly good outcome and we would rather say so than describe a seam we cannot remove. What we can do is make the destination unsurprising, so nobody arrives wondering whether they are still dealing with you.
Get a remodeling pipeline review.
We look at your proof, your budget qualification and what happens to a quote after you send it, because that is usually where the money is.
One caveat on all of that. These are descriptions of rules as they are published today, not legal advice about your situation. They differ by state and they change, sometimes quietly, so check the current wording with your own counsel or compliance officer before you rely on any of it. Where a rule touches your marketing we write to the stricter reading and send it to you for sign off before anything publishes.
Straight answers.
Should we publish remodeling prices?
Publish honest ranges with the variables named. The people a price range scares away were almost always going to end the conversation at the quote stage anyway, after consuming an appointment and an estimate.
If you genuinely cannot publish ranges, qualify budget in the enquiry form instead. Losing a few enquiries saves a great many hours.
Why do our leads take so long to convert?
Because remodeling is a months long decision and most enquiries arrive part way through it. That is normal and it is not a lead quality problem.
The mistake is treating a not yet as a no. A homeowner planning for spring is a lead with a date, and re-contacting near that date is the highest converting message a remodeling business sends.
How important is project photography?
It is the product page. A homeowner is assessing whether you have done this exact project, and nearby, and photographs are the only thing that answers that.
The habit matters more than the equipment: the same shots on every job, taken in the same order, with permission to publish.
Is social media advertising worth it for remodeling?
Yes, more than in almost any other trade, because the work is visual and the decision is considered rather than urgent.
It works best as a way of being present during the long consideration phase rather than as a direct response channel, which means judging it on enquiries over a quarter rather than clicks in a week.
What metric should we actually manage to?
Close rate on quotes issued and average project value, alongside qualified appointments held.
Lead count rises easily and tells you very little. Falling close rate while lead volume rises almost always means the campaign has drifted toward price shoppers.
Do we need lead certification for older homes?
Work disturbing paint in homes built before 1978 is subject to the EPA's renovation, repair and painting programme, which requires certified firms and specific work practices.
If you hold that certification, say so plainly on the site. It is checkable, it is relevant to a large share of the housing stock, and most competitors never mention it.
