Marketing for Westmont businesses

A village with a long, fast commercial strip on one road and a small walkable downtown on another, half a mile apart and behaving like two entirely separate markets.

Platforms this work keeps in sync: Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Tripadvisor and Better Business Bureau.

In short

Which VIS Mountain office serves Westmont?

Westmont is served from the VIS Mountain office in Downers Grove at 5111 Main Street, which shares a border with the village and is the closest of the seven offices.

The work covers local SEO and Google Business Profile management, Google and Meta advertising, web design and reputation for businesses on Ogden Avenue, Cass Avenue and Route 83.

There is no VIS Mountain address in Westmont, and meetings at the Downers Grove office are by appointment only.

The ground

Ogden Avenue across the top, Cass Avenue down the middle.

Westmont sits in DuPage County between Downers Grove to the west and Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale to the east, with Oak Brook to the north across Ogden Avenue and Darien to the south. Ogden Avenue, US Route 34, runs east to west along the northern part of the village. Cass Avenue runs north to south through the centre. Route 83, the Kingery Highway, forms much of the eastern edge.

Metra's BNSF line crosses the village with the Westmont station on Burlington Avenue, and the small downtown has grown around it along Cass Avenue. That downtown is genuinely walkable but compact, a few blocks rather than a district.

Ogden Avenue is the opposite in every respect: multiple lanes, high speed, deep lots, and commerce designed to be seen from a moving car. The Downers Grove office is a short run west, which is why Westmont sits in that office's core service area rather than Oak Brook's.

Who trades here

A notable restaurant corridor, plus trades and neighbourhood services.

Ogden Avenue through Westmont carries an unusually strong concentration of independent restaurants and food retail, including a well-established cluster of Asian restaurants, groceries and bakeries that draws customers from well beyond the village. Alongside them sit automotive sales and service, furniture and home goods, trade suppliers and the roadside categories that want frontage on a busy highway.

The Cass Avenue downtown supports a different economy: neighbourhood restaurants and bars, coffee, salons and barbers, small independent retail, dental and medical practices, and professional offices serving the surrounding residential streets and the commuter flow through the station.

Behind both sits a substantial trades and home services population working across southern DuPage from Westmont bases. Contractors, remodellers, HVAC and plumbing, landscaping, cleaning and restoration. For these the village is where the business is registered rather than where the market sits.

Craft

How we build a page for a place like Westmont.

Location pages have a bad reputation because most of them are one page copied a hundred times. The Ogden Avenue food corridor here draws from well beyond the village, which makes it a destination market rather than a neighbourhood one. Here is the standard we hold ourselves to instead.

  1. Name real things

Corridors, districts, the roads people actually use, the kinds of business that genuinely operate there. If we cannot confirm a detail, we write around it rather than invent one.

  2. Answer the question the page exists for

Near the top, in plain sentences, so that a person skimming and an answer engine quoting get the same thing. No preamble and no marketing framing.

  3. Say who serves it and from where

A service area is not an address. We name the office the work runs from and never imply a presence that does not exist.

  4. Link it into the rest of the site

Up to the office it belongs to, across to neighbouring areas, and down to the services being described. A page with no inbound links is a page nobody finds.

Applied once, that is just care. Applied across every area a business serves, it is the difference between a site that ranks locally and a site that looks like it is trying to.

Named ground

Westmont ground worth naming.

Two commercial worlds and the roads that carry them.

  • Ogden Avenue, US Route 34, across the north of the village
  • The independent restaurant and food retail cluster along Ogden
  • Cass Avenue, the north to south spine through the downtown
  • The Westmont station on Metra's BNSF line
  • Route 83, the Kingery Highway, along the eastern edge
  • The Downers Grove border west and the Clarendon Hills border east
  • Darien to the south and Oak Brook to the north
Evidence

How people actually run a local search.

Before arguing about tactics, it is worth knowing what the behaviour looks like. BrightLocal's 2026 consumer search research found the following. It is vendor research, so we name it rather than calling it fact.

84%of US consumers searched for a local business in the past three months
52%started their most recent local search on Google
71%use Google Search at some point during a local search

None of that is specific to Westmont. What is specific to Westmont is who you are competing with once the search runs, which is the rest of this page.

Search behaviour

A destination strip and a neighbourhood centre need different work.

Restaurants on Ogden Avenue that draw from across the region are competing for destination searches, where people are willing to drive and are comparing options. That rewards review volume, photographs, menu content that can actually be read, and presence in the third-party lists that rank for the same searches.

Downtown businesses are in a proximity game with a much smaller catchment, where a complete profile and recent reviews do most of the work. Running one strategy across both is the most common wasted effort in this village, and the two are only half a mile apart, which is why it happens so often.

A large trades population operates from here across southern DuPage, and their market is the region rather than the village.

The floor

The technical standard a site has to clear before anything else helps.

Ranking a site that does not work is a waste of both our time. Before we chase visibility for a business in Westmont, the site has to clear this list.

  • It loads fast enough on a phone on a mobile connection, judged against Google's published Core Web Vitals thresholds rather than a desktop test
  • It has one page for each service the business actually sells, written for a person comparing two options
  • It works with a keyboard, has real alternative text on images, labels every form field and meets WCAG 2.1 AA
  • Its contact path is obvious on every page, and the phone number is a link on a phone rather than text
  • Its forms ask for the minimum that is genuinely needed, because every extra field costs completions

  • Its structured data describes the business accurately, including the areas served and the services offered
  • Its pages are reachable from somewhere else on the site, because a page with no inbound link is a page nobody finds
  • It does not depend on a platform that could change its rules and take the business offline

WebAIM's 2026 automated analysis of one million home pages found detected WCAG failures on 95.9% of them, which is a reasonable prior for any site that has never been checked. Accessibility is also a legal consideration in several of the sectors we work in.

AI answers

What an assistant says when someone asks for a recommendation.

Downtown Westmont and Ogden Avenue are half a mile apart and need genuinely different strategies.

An assistant answering a local recommendation question, and the sources it pulls the answer from.

A growing share of people in Westmont now ask an assistant before they open a map. BrightLocal's 2026 survey put the share using generative AI tools for local recommendations at 45%. The answer they get is assembled from your profile, your site, review platforms and whatever third-party lists rank for the question.

You cannot buy a position in that answer. You can be the clearest available source: a page that states plainly what you do, where you do it, what it costs to start and who it is not for, structured so it can be lifted without being rewritten.

We check what assistants currently say for the searches that matter to you, and who they cite instead. Often the honest finding is that a directory owns the answer and the fastest route is to be correct on that directory.

Served from

Who covers Westmont, and how.

Westmont is a service area, not an office location. The work is run from the VIS Mountain Downers Grove office, which is the nearest of our seven, and there is no VIS Mountain address in Westmont. Every page on this site that shows a street address shows an office we actually have.

  • The Downers Grove office runs the work, and its team is who you would deal with
  • Direct line for that office: (708) 669-9666
  • Support and service are available 24 hours virtually, which is what our published availability describes
  • In-person meetings run 8:00am to 6:00pm local time, by appointment
  • Most first conversations happen on a call or on video, and you are welcome to meet at the office instead
  • Nothing needs signing at a first meeting, and you keep the findings either way

Every office is by appointment only, including the headquarters. We do not take walk-ins. We also do not publish a promised booking turnaround, because the calendar shows real availability and a written promise would go stale the week after we made it.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does VIS Mountain have an office in Westmont?

No. Our nearest office is in Downers Grove at 5111 Main Street, Suite 150, which borders the village. We serve Westmont from there, by appointment only.

My restaurant draws customers from across the suburbs. Does local SEO still apply?

Yes, but weighted differently. For destination dining, review volume, photographs and readable menu content matter more than being the closest result.

Proximity still decides the map pack for people already nearby, so both surfaces are worth holding.

Should my menu be a PDF?

No. A PDF is hard for search engines to read properly, hard for assistants to quote, and often unusable on a phone.

Menus as real pages get read, get quoted and get found for the specific dish someone is searching for.

Downtown and Ogden Avenue feel like different worlds. Are they?

Commercially, yes. Downtown traffic chose to be there and arrived on foot or off the train. Ogden traffic is moving and comparing.

That difference is worth reflecting in your pages and your advertising rather than treating Westmont as one market.

What would you check first for a Westmont business?

Profile verification and primary category, duplicate listings, name and address consistency, grid ranking across the village and into Downers Grove and Clarendon Hills, and whether calls are being tracked at all.

Most of that is visible before you commit to anything, and we will tell you if the honest answer is a small fix.
