Los Angeles County, California

Marketing for Hollywood businesses

A neighbourhood carrying two economies at once: a heavy visitor trade along one famous boulevard, and an ordinary residential and creative business base on every street around it.

Platforms this work keeps in sync: Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Tripadvisor and Better Business Bureau.

In short

How do Hollywood businesses handle visitor and resident demand at the same time?

Hollywood businesses serve both a large visitor population concentrated along Hollywood Boulevard and a substantial resident and creative-industry base across the surrounding streets, and those two audiences search very differently.

Visitors decide from the map with no local knowledge, while residents and industry clients rely on reputation and referral, so a business serving both needs its profile to be right for the visitor and its site to be right for everyone else.

VIS Mountain serves Hollywood from its Beverly Hills office at 8383 Wilshire Boulevard. There is no VIS Mountain address in Hollywood.

The ground

A boulevard, a hillside and a lot of ordinary streets.

Hollywood sits in central Los Angeles below the Hollywood Hills, with West Hollywood to the west, Los Feliz and Silver Lake to the east, and the Melrose district and Larchmont to the south. The 101 freeway cuts through it diagonally.

Hollywood Boulevard carries the visitor economy, with the Walk of Fame, the theatres and the Hollywood and Highland complex. Sunset Boulevard runs parallel and carries a mix of studios, offices, music venues and commercial frontage. Vine Street crosses both.

Metro's B Line runs beneath, with stations at Hollywood and Highland, Hollywood and Vine and Hollywood and Western, which gives the neighbourhood far better transit than most of the Westside. From our Beverly Hills office the run east on Sunset or Santa Monica Boulevard is direct.

Mechanics

Three slots, and the maths behind them.

A local search returns three map results above everything else. Everyone below position three shares what is left. Hollywood carries huge search volume and huge ambiguity, because much of it is people researching a visit rather than looking for a service.

The local map pack, before and afterA street map carrying three neutral competitor pins and one highlighted pin for your business, beside the three listings Google shows in the local pack. The three-result local pack, and the rank movement a corrected profile and a matching page can produce.

In Hollywood the three slots are not static. They redraw as the searcher moves, so two people a mile apart can get two different sets. Rank tracking that reports a single number for a whole area is reporting an average of results nobody actually saw.

We track by grid instead. A grid of sample points across the trading area shows where a business holds the pack, where it falls out, and which direction the weakness runs. That turns a vague ranking problem into a map you can act on.

It also stops a common waste of money. If the pack is already held across the whole trading area, more local SEO is not the constraint. What happens after the click is.

Who trades here

Visitor trade, entertainment industry and a dense resident service base.

The visitor economy along Hollywood Boulevard covers hospitality, food and drink, tours, retail and entertainment, serving people with no local knowledge who decide in minutes from a map. Hours accuracy, photographs and review recency carry almost all of the weight for these businesses.

The entertainment industry base is substantial and spread across the neighbourhood: production and post-production, music and recording, casting, photography, rehearsal and equipment, plus the offices of streaming and production companies along Sunset. These sell through industry networks and their search job is credibility.

The resident economy is larger than visitors assume. Restaurants and markets away from the boulevard, medical and dental practices, fitness and wellness, salons and barbers, veterinary and childcare, plus the home services that serve a very dense residential area.

Search behaviour

Two audiences, one profile, and a strong neighbourhood name.

Hollywood is a name with enormous search volume and enormous ambiguity, because a large share of it comes from people researching a visit rather than looking for a service. That means generic Hollywood targeting attracts a lot of traffic that will never convert for a local service business, and the useful terms are usually more specific.

For visitor-facing businesses, the profile is the entire battleground: hours including late hours, photographs that show the place as it is now, exact category and recent reviews. For everyone else, the profile matters less and the site matters more, and being clear about which one you are is the first decision.

Transit here is genuinely good by Los Angeles standards, which concentrates foot traffic at three specific points.

You cannot buy a position in that answer. What you can do is be the clearest, most consistent source about your own business, which is the same work that makes Hollywood searches go your way anyway.

Served from

Who covers Hollywood, and how.

Hollywood is a service area, not an office location. The work is run from the VIS Mountain Beverly Hills office, which is the nearest of our seven, and there is no VIS Mountain address in Hollywood. Every page on this site that shows a street address shows an office we actually have.

  • The Beverly Hills office runs the work, and its team is who you would deal with
  • Direct line for that office: (424) 246-9766
  • Support and service are available 24 hours virtually, which is what our published availability describes
  • In-person meetings run 8:00am to 6:00pm local time, by appointment
  • Most first conversations happen on a call or on video, and you are welcome to meet at the office instead
  • Nothing needs signing at a first meeting, and you keep the findings either way

Every office is by appointment only, including the headquarters. We do not take walk-ins. We also do not publish a promised booking turnaround, because the calendar shows real availability and a written promise would go stale the week after we made it.

Start with the cheap fixes.

Most Hollywood businesses have two or three corrections worth more than a month of new work. The Beverly Hills office will find them and tell you what they are. Meetings are by appointment, in person or on a call.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does VIS Mountain have an office in Hollywood?

No. Our Westside office is at 8383 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 800, Beverly Hills. We serve Hollywood from there, by appointment only.

Should we target the word Hollywood at all?

Carefully. It carries huge volume and a lot of it is visitor research that will never convert for a local service business.

More specific terms, and the neighbourhood you actually sit in, usually produce far better quality traffic.

We are a production business, not a visitor business. What applies?

Very little of the visitor advice. Your clients arrive through industry networks and then check you.

A site that explains capabilities, credits and process clearly is worth far more than map pack position, and it is also what an assistant reads when compiling a shortlist.

How do we manage reviews from tourists?

Expect them at the extremes, keep a steady base of ordinary reviews from regulars to balance the average, and reply to all of them properly.

BrightLocal's 2026 survey found half of consumers view generic or templated replies negatively, so the reply needs to be written by someone who read the review.

Does being near a Metro station help?

It concentrates foot traffic at specific points, which matters for food, drink and convenience categories.

It is a demand factor rather than a ranking factor, and it is worth reflecting in directions and access content.
