Collin County, Texas

Marketing for Plano businesses

A large corporate city in Collin County with a genuine downtown arts district, a modern business district at Legacy, and one of the more competitive local search markets in the metroplex.

Platforms this work keeps in sync: Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Nextdoor, Foursquare, Tripadvisor and Better Business Bureau.

In short

Why is Plano one of the harder local search markets in the metroplex?

Plano is a competitive local search market because most businesses in the main categories already have claimed profiles, substantial review counts and functional websites, so the fundamentals get a business to the starting line rather than to the top three.

Differentiation here comes from depth and specificity: content that answers real questions, review recency rather than review totals, and genuine clarity about services.

VIS Mountain serves Plano from its Dallas office at 1441 W Mockingbird Lane. There is no VIS Mountain address in Plano.

The ground

A corporate city with two very different centres.

Plano sits in Collin County north of Dallas, bordered by Richardson and Dallas to the south, Carrollton and The Colony to the west, Frisco to the north-west, Allen to the north and Murphy and Wylie to the east. US Highway 75 runs north to south through the city, the Dallas North Tollway runs along the western side and the President George Bush Turnpike crosses the south.

Legacy West and the surrounding Legacy business park form a large modern corporate and mixed-use district on the western side, with company headquarters, offices, hotels, restaurants and retail. It functions as a destination in its own right.

The Downtown Plano Arts District around 15th Street is the older centre: walkable, independent and served by DART's Red Line at Downtown Plano and by the Silver Line at 12th Street, which opened on 25 October 2025. From the Dallas office the run north on US 75 or the Tollway is direct.

Search behaviour

A mature market where cheap wins are mostly gone.

In most Plano categories the obvious work has already been done by someone. Profiles are claimed, reviews exist, sites function. That does not mean the market is closed, it means the lever moves from housekeeping to depth: specific content that answers the questions people actually ask, accurate service-level detail, and review recency rather than review totals.

Paid search is correspondingly more expensive and more useful. LocalIQ's 2026 benchmarks across their own advertiser base put dentists and dental services at $8.00 average cost per click and $72.97 average cost per lead, and physicians and surgeons at $4.76 and $40.04. Those are vendor benchmarks rather than promises, but in a market this competitive they are worth knowing before scaling spend.

Paid search costs here are high enough that spending without conversion tracking is an expensive way to learn nothing.

You cannot buy a position in that answer. What you can do is be the clearest, most consistent source about your own business, which is the same work that makes Plano searches go your way anyway.

Scope

Three levels of work, and what each one moves.

Not every business in Plano needs the same scope. This is the honest version of what changes at each level, written so you can rule things out. Plano is competitive enough that doing the fundamentals correctly is the entry requirement rather than the strategy.

Who trades here

Corporate headquarters, professional services, healthcare and a competitive retail base.

The corporate base is substantial, with major company headquarters and large regional offices in financial services, technology, telecommunications, insurance and consumer brands concentrated around Legacy and the Tollway corridor. Their marketing is national and their local requirement is credibility.

Professional and personal services are dense and competitive: law, accountancy, wealth management, medical and dental practices, aesthetics and dermatology, orthodontics, veterinary, childcare and education. These are among the most contested local search categories in the metroplex, with well-resourced competitors in almost every one.

Retail and hospitality span both centres: national brands and restaurants around Legacy, independents and event-driven trade in the Downtown Arts District. Home services and trades serve a very large residential population across the city and into Frisco and Allen.

Reporting

What you actually see each month.

Reporting should be short enough to read and specific enough to argue with. This is what a month looks like for a client in Plano.

  1. Enquiries, by source

Calls separated between the Google Business Profile and the website, forms tied to the page that produced them, chat conversations that turned into enquiries, and spam excluded so the number is real.

  2. Grid position, not a single rank

Where you hold the map pack across the trading area and where you fall out of it, as a map rather than a number. A single rank figure is an average of results nobody experienced.

  3. What changed and why

The specific work done, in plain language, and what it was meant to move. If something did not move, that is in the report too, along with what we think the reason is.

  4. What we recommend stopping

Anything that is not producing. It is the section most agencies leave out and the one that makes the rest of the report credible.

You own everything: the profile, the site, the tracking, the ad accounts and the data. If you leave, none of it comes with us.

Reviews

Reviews are read before anything else you publish.

Legacy and the Downtown Arts District are several miles apart and compete against different sets of businesses.

Reputation before and afterTwo panels compare a star row and the pace at which reviews arrive. The first shows a lower star row with occasional, mostly old reviews. The second shows a fuller star row with reviews arriving steadily month after month.BEFORESTAR RATINGREVIEWS ARRIVINGSPORADIC, AND MOSTLY OLDAFTERSTAR RATINGREVIEWS ARRIVINGA STEADY, CONTINUING FLOWSCHEMATIC. NO ONE CAN GUARANTEE A RATING OR A REVIEW COUNT.
Review count and recency before and after a steady, compliant review process.

Rating and recency both matter, and they matter differently. BrightLocal's 2026 consumer survey found 74% of people prioritise reviews from the last three months, which means a strong profile that stopped collecting reviews is a decaying asset.

In Plano the practical question is usually who asks, and when. A request sent at the moment the work finishes performs very differently from one sent a week later by an automated system nobody set up properly.

We never gate reviews, never incentivise them and never write them. The FTC's rule banning fake reviews and testimonials took effect on 21 October 2024, and platforms remove them regardless. The slow version is the only version that holds.

Served from

Who covers Plano, and how.

Plano is a service area, not an office location. The work is run from the VIS Mountain Dallas office, which is the nearest of our seven, and there is no VIS Mountain address in Plano. Every page on this site that shows a street address shows an office we actually have.

  • The Dallas office runs the work, and its team is who you would deal with
  • Direct line for that office: (945) 600-6005
  • Support and service are available 24 hours virtually, which is what our published availability describes
  • In-person meetings run 8:00am to 6:00pm local time, by appointment
  • Most first conversations happen on a call or on video, and you are welcome to meet at the office instead
  • Nothing needs signing at a first meeting, and you keep the findings either way

Every office is by appointment only, including the headquarters. We do not take walk-ins. We also do not publish a promised booking turnaround, because the calendar shows real availability and a written promise would go stale the week after we made it.

Start with the cheap fixes.

Most Plano businesses have two or three corrections worth more than a month of new work. The Dallas office will find them and tell you what they are. Meetings are by appointment, in person or on a call.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does VIS Mountain have an office in Plano?

No. We serve Plano from our Dallas office at 1441 W Mockingbird Lane, Suite 600W, by appointment only. We never publish an address in a city where we do not have one.

Everyone here already does SEO. What is left?

Depth and specificity. Most competitors publish general pages about their category. Very few publish genuinely useful answers to the specific questions their customers ask before booking.

Review recency is the other gap. Large but stale review counts are weaker assets than they look.

Should we target Frisco and Allen as well?

If you genuinely serve them, yes, with a properly researched page for each. They are adjacent, growing and their residents search using their own city name.

Thin duplicate pages will not work here, because the market is competitive enough that near-duplicates simply get collapsed.

What does paid search cost in this market?

More than in most of the metroplex. LocalIQ's 2026 figures for their own advertiser base put dental at $8.00 average cost per click and $72.97 average cost per lead, and physicians at $4.76 and $40.04.

Those are benchmarks, not promises. We set conversion tracking up before spending so your own numbers replace them quickly.

Does the new Silver Line station matter?

It added a second rail service in the city and connected Plano westward through Carrollton and Addison to DFW Airport.

For businesses near 12th Street it is worth reflecting in access and directions content. We would not overstate it beyond that.
